How secure are your passwords?
Despite the many password warnings we see and hear, most of us still use the same password (or a variation of it) on websites that require a login.
We highly recommend using multiple passwords, even though the effort can be confusing, hard to remember, and a challenge to manage. But since we’re all human…and likely to fall back on what’s easiest, make sure the one password variant you do use is a strong one.
Ensure your information is secure by testing your password’s strength at howsecureismypassword.net. The process is easy: just type in your password and the site determines how much time a PC would take to calculate your password in a brute-force attack—when characters are generated randomly until the password is found.
Wondering what you can do to make your password stronger? Variation is the key to developing a secure password. Use at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, a special character and number in your password—and be sure that it’s more than 8 characters long.
