Does Your Nonprofit Website Need a Little Spring Cleaning?

Spring is finally here! What a perfect time to spend a few hours every week tackling some of those website updates and changes that procrastination caused you to put on the back burner.

Imagine for a moment a clean and clutter-free website. After all, your website is your nonprofit’s online home, and with the power of the internet the door is always open for visitors. Make your web-house feel like a home or – in this case – a home page.

With time not necessarily on your side, which area of your website should be “cleaned” first? For the greatest return on your time investment, concentrate on several key areas:

  • Remove outdated content and look for places where you can link to related areas of your website. Your goal is for visitors to stay a while and be able to maneuver around quickly and easily.
  • Verify and test the mobile version of your website on your phone. For a quick and easy assessment, Google provides a mobile friendly test for free by simply dropping in your website’s URL.
  • Test your links to confirm they all still work . . . especially your donation and contact buttons.
  • Confirm that all website comments received responses. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, many unsolicited partner or business opportunities come through nonprofit websites but get overlooked.
  • Analyze every webpage and look for areas where you can add images, videos, bullet points, better descriptive content and potentially additional pages. Keep in mind that every page should be a functional and purposeful space.
  • Refrain from simply purging certain pages or areas of interest; deleting is just one option. A simple content update or fresh image upload may add new interest.

Big or small, your site should present the best of your organization to reach visitors interested in supporting your mission through funding or volunteering. If it’s clean, easy to navigate and employs good use of white space, compelling images and organized content, you can rest assured your website replicates the perfect cozy home for your charitable organization or house of worship.

Now grab that opportunity to spring clean your nonprofit website and find those little things to get rid of, move or simply modernize to make it both welcoming and visitor friendly.

If, while you’re “cleaning,” you find you also need additional management, accounting or audit services for your nonprofit, the Online Stewardship Accounting & Consulting Services team is here to help.
